10 REASONS TO BECOME A PADI OPEN WATER DIVE INSTRUCTOR IN WHITIANGA

  1. Awesome Facility

Here at Dive Zone Whitianga we are so lucky to be situated so close to the marina, a 2-minute walk and you're on our boats ready to get in to it! Our facility has well equipped class rooms, a large retail area, and a student area where customers and students can hang out and chat with a hot drink in hand or study on the computers with our free Wifi. We also have a large outdoor area for washing gear, secure gear storage, a wide range of well-maintained hire equipment, qualified service technicians on site and plenty of parking.

  2.  Amazing dive sites

We are so blessed to be based on the Coromandel Peninsula's east coast, the stunning coastline and islands really take your breath away. Mercury Bay is the ideal gateway to all that the Eastern Coromandel has to offer. Within an hour of scenic boat travel from the town of Whitianga, there are miles of dive-able coastline to explore, over 30 islands, including the Mercury and Aldermen Island groups, Te Whanganui-a-Hei (Cathedral Cove) Marine Reserve, as well as countless rocks, pinnacles, and bays. Even on the more uninviting days it is possible to find good diving with the benefit of our sheltered harbour entrance.

  3. Do something different!

Being located in the South Pacific Ocean, we have the benefit of being between warm tropical currents and the wild Southern Ocean These contrasting elements offer us a variety of diving conditions and an abundance of life not seen in other places. Our vast playground means we have countless dive sites so no two dives are ever quite the same.

  4. We have Multiple dive boats!

"Mystery Machine" is a 12 meter aluminum hull purpose-hull dive vessel surveyed to carry 20 divers and two crew. The Mystery Machine cruises at 18-20 knots and features a large covered wet area.

"Scuba Doo" is a 12 meter aluminum hull purpose-built dive vessel surveyed to carry 20 divers and two crew. Scuba Doo boasts a spacious covered wet-dry cabin area with squab seating, and cruises at 15-18 knots.

"Under Pressure" is a 6 meter rigid-hull inflatable dive vessel surveyed to carry 8 divers and a skipper. Under Pressure has a cruising speed of 25-30 knots and is great for smaller groups or as a supplementary for larger groups.

  5. We have a fun, supportive team !

You will often find our team afterwork yarning about the days adventures, we are a supportive bunch and encourage upskilling. We are always excited to show you our backyard.

  6. Our abundant fish life !

We are so lucky to be able to take a short boat ride to Cathedral Cove, in the Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve and encounter an abundance of fish life, crayfish, big friendly snapper, Stingrays and a variety of reef fish. Throughout the year its not uncommon to receive a visit from some larger marine species.

  7. It's a great place to learn to surf !

The varied coastline of the Eastern Coromandel offers some epic surf, with sheltered bays and exposed headlands there is something for every level. If you are keen to learn there are local surf schools nearby that can help you learn the ropes.

  8. Learn to free dive !

We are also a PADI Freedive center so if you want to learn to freedive, we can help you. You can even progress through to become a Freediver Instructor!

  9. Multiple things to do ;

Beautiful nature walks: The Pinnacles, Opito Bay, Maramaratotara track and Shakespeare lookout.

Beautiful beaches: New Chums, Hot water beach, Rings beach and Otama.

Activities: Lost Spring Geothermal Pools, Whitianga Bike Park, Whitianga Fun Zone, Mercury Twin Cinema, abundance of local cafes and restaurants! There is always something to do on the Coromandel.
